How gratuity is calculated in Qatar
How do I work out end of service gratuity for a worker in Qatar?
The situation
Art. 54 sets gratuity at no less than three weeks of last basic wage for each year of service, for workers with at least one full year.
The law
- Art. 54, Labour Law No. 14 of 2004: Gratuity of at least three weeks of last basic wage for each year after one full year of service, pro rata for part years
What it means for you
Take the last monthly basic wage, convert to a weekly rate (x 12 / 52), multiply by 3 for each year. Basic QAR 6,000 for 3 years gives 6,000 x 12 / 52 x 3 x 3 = QAR 12,462. Part years are paid pro rata. Contracts can give more but not less.
What to do
- Confirm the last basic wage.
- Count full years and months of service.
- Apply three weeks per year.
- Pay with final dues.
