When does the expatriate savings scheme start?

The situation

The Fund board sets the start date, no later than 19 July 2027.

The law

  • Social Protection Law, Royal Decree 52/2023 (savings system for non-Omanis): Employer savings contribution of 9 percent of basic wage, start date set by the Fund board, no later than 19 July 2027

What it means for you

Employers will pay 9 percent of each non-Omani worker's basic wage into a savings account, starting on a date set by the Fund board, no later than 19 July 2027. On OMR 600 basic that is OMR 54 a month. Budget for it now.
