Must small businesses register BPJS
Saya punya 2 karyawan. Wajib daftar BPJS?
The situation
Yes. Employers must register their workers in BPJS Kesehatan and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, whatever the size of the business.
The law
- Art 14 and 15, Law 24/2011 on BPJS: Every person, including a foreigner working at least 6 months in Indonesia, must join; employers must register their workers and pay contributions
- Perpres 82/2018 on health insurance, as amended by Perpres 64/2020 and Perpres 59/2024: Wage earner contribution is 5 percent of monthly wage (4 percent employer, 1 percent employee) up to a wage cap of IDR 12,000,000
What it means for you
Micro businesses may join a reduced set of employment programmes at first, but health coverage applies. Example: two staff on IDR 5 million each: health contribution IDR 250,000 each, of which IDR 200,000 by employer.
What to do
- Register the business on both portals.
- Enrol both workers.
- Set up monthly payments.
- Deduct the employee share.
Not registering exposes you to claims if a worker is injured.
