Cancelling permits when staff leave
An employee is leaving Qatar for good. What must the company do?
The situation
The employer handles cancellation or transfer of the residence permit.
The law
- Law No. 21 of 2015 on entry, exit and residence of expatriates: Residence permits are tied to a recruiter or employer and handled by the Ministry of Interior
- Art. 67, Labour Law No. 14 of 2004: Final dues payable by the end of the working day after the contract ends; up to seven days if the worker left without notice
What it means for you
Pay final dues by the next working day, then cancel the permit through MOI. If the worker moves to another employer, the transfer follows the current rules. Keep cancellation proof.
What to do
- Pay final dues.
- Cancel the permit through MOI.
