Exporter and GST

We only export. Do we register?

The situation

Zero-rated supplies count toward the threshold.

The law

  • Goods and Services Tax Act 1993, Fourth Schedule: Registration required when taxable supplies exceed S$1 million (retrospective or prospective view)

What it means for you

Mainly zero-rated businesses may apply for exemption from registration. Registering can let you claim input tax. Being registered lets you recover input tax on local purchases and imports, which helps exporters. If exempted from registration, you cannot claim input tax.

What to do

  1. Total zero-rated supplies.
  2. Check exemption.
  3. Decide.
  4. Apply.

We can do this for youGST registration (compulsory and voluntary): SGD 600
