GCC national shareholders treated like Qatari
I am a Kuwaiti resident in Qatar with a company here. Is my share taxed?
The situation
Profit shares of GCC nationals are generally treated like Qatari shares and are exempt, with a filing duty.
The law
- Law No. 24 of 2018 and GTA filing rules for Qatari and GCC owned entities: The share of profit owned by Qatari and GCC nationals is exempt, but the entity still files
What it means for you
As a GCC national your share is normally exempt in the same way as a Qatari share. Check that your nationality is recorded on the CR and in Dhareeba. Mixed companies with non-GCC partners pay tax on the non-GCC share only.
What to do
- Check nationality data on the CR.
- Confirm the Dhareeba profile shows the right ownership.
- File the return each year.
- Use QA-CIT-01 if there are non-GCC partners.
