Exempt company and Pillar Two
Our Qatari group is exempt locally but has subsidiaries abroad. Does the global minimum tax matter?
The situation
Law No. 22 of 2024 applies the 15 percent global minimum tax to groups with EUR 750 million revenue, including Qatar headquartered groups with foreign operations.
The law
- Law No. 22 of 2024 amending Law No. 24 of 2018 (global minimum tax): IIR and DMTT at 15 percent for MNE groups with EUR 750 million revenue in two of the four prior years, for years from 1 January 2025
What it means for you
If your group meets the revenue test, exempt Qatar profits may count as low taxed and create DMTT in Qatar. Below the threshold nothing changes. See QA-P2-01 for scoping.
What to do
- Check group revenue for the last four years.
- If in scope, start a Pillar Two scoping.
- Track GTA notification dates.
- Keep filing the annual return.
