ECI waiver

Do we need to file ECI?

The situation

No ECI is needed if revenue is S$5 million or less and ECI is nil.

The law

  • Income Tax Act 1947: Estimated Chargeable Income: ECI filed within 3 months after financial year end; waiver if revenue up to S$5 million and ECI nil

What it means for you

Both tests must be met. A company with S$2 million revenue and S$100,000 taxable profit must file. A company with S$3 million revenue and a loss is waived.

What to do

  1. Check revenue.
  2. Estimate chargeable income.
  3. Apply both tests.
  4. File if not waived.
