Tax: Goods vehicle owner
Return: ITR-4 (Sugam)
- If you own up to 10 goods vehicles, Sec 58 of the Income-tax Act 2025 (old Sec 44AE) fixes your income at ₹7,500 per vehicle per month (heavy vehicles above 12 tonnes: ₹1,000 per tonne per month). You may declare more if you earn more.
- Months you did not own the vehicle do not count.
- Business customers may deduct TDS (Sec 393 of the 2025 Act, old Sec 194C) unless you give them a declaration with your PAN as a small transporter.
GST on goods transport
Carrying goods yourself without issuing a consignment note is exempt. If you issue consignment notes as a goods transport agency, the business customer usually pays GST under reverse charge.
