  • Shift to higher-paying roles: fleet captain, store staff

Tax: Gig and platform income

Return: ITR-4 (Sugam) with presumptive income; ITR-3 if you keep full books

  • Platform payouts are business income, not salary. With turnover up to ₹2 crore you can use Sec 58 of the Income-tax Act 2025 (old Sec 44AD) and declare 6% of digital receipts as profit.
  • Platforms may deduct TDS (Sec 393 of the 2025 Act, old Sec 194O or 194C). Check your AIS each year and claim it back.
  • Under the new regime, total income up to ₹12 lakh usually means no tax after the rebate. Filing still gets your TDS refunded and builds a record for loans.

GST on services

Register once your services turnover crosses ₹20 lakh in a year (₹10 lakh in some North-Eastern and hill states). Below that, register only if clients insist or it helps you claim tax credit.
