Reporting salary changes to SIO

We gave raises this year. Do we have to tell SIO?

The situation

Employers report contract salary through the SIO portal and must report salary changes.

The law

  • Edict No. 109 of 2023 on end-of-service benefits for expatriates: From 1 March 2024 employers pay SIO 4.2% a month for expatriates in years 0 to 3 and 8.4% after that
  • Social Insurance Law, Decree-Law No. 24 of 1976 as amended by Law No. 14 of 2022: Employers register staff with the SIO and pay monthly contributions; the employer share for Bahrainis rises by one point a year

What it means for you

Contributions follow the salary on record, so unreported raises create arrears that SIO can later collect. Under reporting can also reduce what the employee receives from SIO. Update the portal in the month the raise takes effect and check the next bill.

What to do

  1. Collect salary changes.
  2. Update the SIO portal.
  3. Check the next bill.
  4. File the evidence.
