The situation
GCC nationals are covered through the GCC insurance protection extension arrangements administered via the SIO.
The law
- Social Insurance Law, Decree-Law No. 24 of 1976 as amended by Law No. 14 of 2022: Employers register staff with the SIO and pay monthly contributions; the employer share for Bahrainis rises by one point a year
What it means for you
Each GCC country has its own pension scheme, and coverage is extended through the SIO under GCC arrangements. Rates differ by nationality. Confirm the scheme with SIO before the first payroll so deductions are right from day one.
