Our accounting software asks for a VAT number. What do we put?

The situation

Qatar does not issue VAT registration numbers because it has no VAT law in force.

The law

  • GCC Unified VAT Agreement (Qatar has not issued a domestic VAT law): Qatar signed the GCC framework but has not implemented VAT as of November 2026

What it means for you

Qatar does not issue VAT numbers. Leave the VAT field blank or, if the software requires a tax number, use your GTA TIN where it allows. Never invent a VAT number, as it can confuse customers in other GCC states.

What to do

  1. Leave the VAT field blank.
  2. Use the GTA TIN where a tax number is required.
  3. Disable VAT tax codes.
  4. Test a sample invoice.
