Supplier added VAT on a Qatar invoice
Our supplier added 5 percent VAT to a Doha invoice. Should we pay it?
The situation
Qatar has not implemented VAT, so no Qatar VAT can lawfully be charged on a supply made in Qatar.
The law
- GCC Unified VAT Agreement (Qatar has not issued a domestic VAT law): Qatar signed the GCC framework but has not implemented VAT as of November 2026
What it means for you
Qatar has no VAT law in force, so no VAT can be charged on a Qatar supply. Ask the supplier for a corrected invoice without the VAT line. Paying a charge with no legal basis is hard to recover later.
What to do
- Reject the VAT line.
- Ask for a corrected invoice.
- Pay the net amount.
- Flag the supplier in your vendor master.
