SSM fees to incorporate a private company

The situation

SSM charges RM50 to reserve a name for 30 days and RM1,000 to incorporate a company limited by shares.

The law

• Sec 27, Companies Act 2016: Reservation of a company name before incorporation
• Sec 14, Companies Act 2016: Application to incorporate a company is lodged with the Registrar (SSM)

What it means for you

These are government fees only. Professional fees for the filing, secretary and set-up are extra and vary by provider. If incorporation is not done within 30 days of the name reservation, you pay again to extend, up to 180 days. Budget RM1,050 for SSM plus your secretary's fee.

What to do

1. Reserve the name on MyCoID.
2. Prepare director and member details.
3. Lodge incorporation and pay RM1,000.
4. Download the notice of registration.
