My SSM business registration expired. What happens?

The situation

Business registration must be renewed to keep trading legally. Trading on an expired registration can attract a compound.

The law

  • Sec 5, Registration of Businesses Act 1956: Business must be registered with SSM before or within 30 days of starting

What it means for you

Renew on ezBiz as soon as possible. You may be able to renew for more than one year at a time, which saves admin. If you have stopped trading, terminate the registration instead so it does not lapse with obligations open.

What to do

  1. Log in to ezBiz.
  2. Choose renewal and the period.
  3. Pay and download the new certificate.
  4. Set a reminder before the next expiry.
