Interest on corrected returns

Berapa bunga kalau betulkan SPT?

The situation

Interest is monthly, based on a rate in a Minister of Finance decree that changes each month, for up to 24 months.

The law

  • Art 8, Law 6/1983 on General Provisions and Tax Procedures (KUP Law), as last amended by Law 6/2023: A taxpayer may correct a filed return on its own initiative before an audit starts, and may disclose errors during a preliminary evidence examination with a penalty
  • Art 9, Law 6/1983 on General Provisions and Tax Procedures (KUP Law), as last amended by Law 6/2023: Tax must be paid by the due date; late payment carries monthly interest at the rate set by Minister of Finance decree

What it means for you

Use the rate for the month of payment. Part months count as full. Example: IDR 10 million shortfall, 6 months: 10,000,000 x monthly rate x 6. The DJP publishes the monthly rates. Interest is charged on the tax shortfall only, not on fines.

What to do

  1. Find the KMK rate for the month.
  2. Count months from the due date.
  3. Compute interest.
  4. Pay with the tax.

Interest stops only when tax is paid.
