Nil VAT return in Bahrain

I had no sales this quarter. Do I still file the VAT return?

The situation

A registered person files a return for each tax period, even if there are no sales.

The law

  • Decree-Law No. 48 of 2018 on Value Added Tax: Bahrain VAT law administered by the NBR; covers registration, invoicing, returns and penalties

What it means for you

A nil return keeps your record clean and avoids late filing fines. Include any input VAT from purchases if you made taxable supplies previously and expect to again.

What to do

  1. Log in to the NBR portal.
  2. Enter zero sales.
  3. Add any input VAT.
  4. Submit.
