Raising a grievance for missing TDS credit

Updated . Every paid answer is checked by a CA. Free AI answers are labelled until a CA verifies them.

Find

The e-Filing portal has a grievance facility under the Grievances menu. Missing credit and TDS statement issues go to CPC-TDS, while defaults by deductors can be sent to the Assessing Officer. You get an acknowledgement number to track it.

Provisions

Sec 199, Income-tax Act 1961; Sec 200(3) (now Sec 397(3)(b))

Analysis

The user manual lists CPC-TDS categories covering Form 26AS issues and TDS statement problems, and the Assessing Officer category covering TDS defaults by deductors. Choose the Act and year, describe the problem in at least 100 characters with the deductor's TAN, amounts and periods, and attach proof like payslips or invoices. Track it under View Grievance Status. A grievance does not replace the deductor's correction, but it pushes the matter.

Close

  1. Log in and go to Grievances, Submit Grievance.
  2. Choose CPC-TDS or Assessing Officer, then the matching category.
  3. Describe the issue with TAN, period and amount, and attach proof.
  4. Note the acknowledgement number and track the status.
