You can enter TDS from your certificate, but CPC allows only what Form 26AS shows at processing. The difference will appear as a demand or a reduced refund. Many people wait for the correction, or file and then rectify.

Provisions

Sec 199, Income-tax Act 1961; Sec 143(1) (now Sec 270(1)); Sec 154 (now Sec 287)

Analysis

Claiming credit that is not in Form 26AS does not lose you the right, but the intimation will deny it for now. If the due date is near, file on time with the credit you can support, follow up with the deductor, and rectify once credit appears. Filing late just to wait can cost late fees and interest. Keep payslips and certificates ready.

  1. Check whether the correction will come before your due date.
  2. If not, file on time with the credit shown in Form 26AS.
  3. Follow up with the deductor.
  4. Rectify the return when the credit appears.
