Paying final dues on time

How long do we have to pay final settlement after an employee leaves?

The situation

Final dues, including gratuity, must be paid within 14 days of the contract ending.

The law

  • Federal Decree-Law 33 of 2021 on employment relationships: Employer duties including wages and dues on contract end

What it means for you

Late payment can lead to complaints to MOHRE and blocks on your establishment. Example: contract ends 31 October, so pay by 14 November. Prepare the settlement before the last working day.

What to do

  1. Prepare the settlement before the last day.
  2. Get the employee's sign-off.
  3. Pay by bank transfer.
  4. Keep proof of payment.
