Documents the FTA checks for a refund
What documents will the FTA ask for when I claim a VAT refund?
The situation
The FTA usually asks for the largest purchase invoices, proof of payment, sales or export evidence and bank details matching the business.
The law
- Art 74, Federal Decree-Law 8 of 2017 as amended from 1 January 2026: Refund of excess recoverable tax; carry forward or refund only within 5 years
What it means for you
Prepare a pack: credit reconciliation, top invoices, bank statements showing supplier payments, customs exit documents for exports, and an IBAN letter. Example: an exporter claiming AED 120,000 should attach the ten biggest purchase invoices and matching export declarations. Missing payment proof is the most common delay.
What to do
- Reconcile the credit to returns.
- Pull the largest invoices and payment proof.
- Add export or zero-rating evidence.
- Upload with the request.
