Verifying a freelancer before hiring

We want to hire a Saudi freelancer. How do we verify him?

The situation

The Freelance platform lets anyone verify a freelance document by its number. Clients can check the document is valid and covers the work.

The law

  • MHRSD Freelance Document rules: Individuals register approved independent activities on the Freelance platform
  • Saudi VAT Law and VAT Implementing Regulations, registration rules: Mandatory registration above SAR 375,000 of taxable supplies; voluntary above SAR 187,500; apply within 30 days

What it means for you

Ask for the document number and check the activity matches the work. If the freelancer charges VAT, check his VAT number too. Keep a copy of the verification in the vendor file.
