Showing the VAT number on invoices
Got my VAT certificate. What must change on invoices?
The situation
After registration, tax invoices must show the VAT number and meet ZATCA e-invoicing rules, including a QR code for simplified invoices under Phase 1.
The law
- ZATCA E-Invoicing Regulations (issued 4 December 2020): Phase 1 generation from 4 December 2021; Phase 2 integration from 1 January 2023 in waves
- Saudi VAT Law (Royal Decree M/113), standard rate 15 percent from 1 July 2020: Standard VAT rate is 15 percent
What it means for you
Use a compliant e-invoicing solution, not spreadsheets or handwritten invoices. Charge 15 percent on standard supplies. Check whether a Phase 2 wave applies to you based on turnover.
What to do
- Update invoice template with VAT number.
- Use a compliant solution.
- Check your Phase 2 wave.
