Late filing penalty for the Qatar corporate tax return
We missed the tax return deadline by 40 days. What penalty will the GTA charge?
The situation
The penalty for a late return is QAR 500 for each day of delay, with a cap of QAR 180,000.
The law
- Art. 24, Law No. 24 of 2018 on Income Tax: Late return penalty of QAR 500 per day, capped at QAR 180,000
- Law No. 24 of 2018 on Income Tax (late payment): 2 percent of unpaid tax for each month or part of a month, capped at the tax due
What it means for you
Forty days late gives 40 x QAR 500 = QAR 20,000 for late filing. If tax was also unpaid, add 2 percent of the tax for each month or part month: on QAR 60,000 tax unpaid for 40 days that is two part months, so QAR 2,400. The daily penalty keeps running until you file, so file first and discuss relief later. The 2025 penalty exemption window closed on 31 December 2025.
