Objecting to a tax assessment
We disagree with our Oman tax assessment. How do we object?
The situation
An objection must be filed within 45 days of the assessment. The Tax Authority decides within five months, extendable by three.
The law
- Income Tax Law (objections and grievances): Objection within 45 days of assessment; Tax Grievance Committee within 45 days; court within 45 days
What it means for you
If the objection fails, you can go to the Tax Grievance Committee within 45 days of the decision, and then to the Primary Court within 45 days of the Committee's decision. Missing a 45 day window usually ends the right.
What to do
- Diary 45 days from the assessment date.
- Prepare grounds and evidence.
- File the objection on time.
- Track the next 45 day window.
