Can I claim my laptop and phone?
The situation
Lifestyle relief of up to RM2,500 covers items such as books, a personal computer or smartphone, internet bills and skills courses.
The law
- Sec 46, Income Tax Act 1967: Personal reliefs, including RM9,000 individual relief and RM7,000 for EPF and life insurance
What it means for you
The items must be for you, your spouse or child, and you need receipts. Some items such as sports equipment may have their own separate relief. Do not claim the same item twice.
What to do
- Collect receipts.
- Check eligible categories.
- Claim up to RM2,500.
- Keep receipts for 7 years.
