Simple reconciliation checklist before filing

Updated . Every paid answer is checked by a CA. Free AI answers are labelled until a CA verifies them.

Find

A good reconciliation covers every income type and every tax credit across Form 16, Form 26AS, AIS and your own records. It takes less time than handling an intimation later.

Provisions

Sec 285BB (now Sec 510); Sec 143(1)(a) (now Sec 270(2))

Analysis

Work head by head: salary from Form 16 and AIS, interest from bank certificates and AIS, dividends, capital gains from broker statements, rent, business receipts. Then tax credits: TDS, TCS, advance and self-assessment tax from 26AS. For each item note 'matches', 'difference explained' or 'action needed'. For example, ₹3,000 more interest in your records than AIS is fine; report the higher figure.

Close

  1. Make a sheet with columns: item, own record, Form 16, 26AS, AIS, note
  2. Fill income heads first, then tax credits
  3. Act on each difference: report, feedback or follow up
  4. File only when every row has a note
