Letting a CA reply as authorised representative

Updated . Every paid answer is checked by a CA. Free AI answers are labelled until a CA verifies them.

Find

You can add an authorised representative on the portal to respond on your behalf. Only one representative can be active at a time for a proceeding, and you can remove them later.

Provisions

Sec 142(1) (now Sec 268(1)); Sec 288, Income-tax Act 1961

Analysis

Adding an authorised representative is cleaner than sharing your password. The CA then sees the notice in their login and files replies under their name. You remain responsible for the contents, so read the reply before it goes. Remove the authorisation once the case is closed.

Close

  1. Go to Authorised Partners > Authorise Representative Assessee or the e-Proceedings authorisation option
  2. Add the CA's details and the proceeding
  3. Approve with OTP
  4. Review the draft reply before the CA submits it
