A PMT-06 challan is valid for 15 days from generation. If you do not pay within 15 days, it expires and you must create a new one. No money is lost on an expired unpaid challan.

Provisions

Rule 87, CGST Rules 2017

Analysis

Example: a challan created on 1 October expires on about 15 October. On 21 October, create a fresh challan with the same amounts and pay. For NEFT or RTGS, the bank must remit within the validity. If you paid through NEFT after expiry, the bank transfer may bounce back. Always create the challan close to the payment date.
